AFRICAN TSUNAMI VICTIMS BEING LEFT OUT; HOW YOU CAN HELP? To make a donation to Somalia or another African country of your choice, visit www.unhcr.ch Los Angeles, CA - Western nations and private donors have responded with an unprecendented outpouring of aid to tsunami devastated Asian countries. Yet, according to BlackNews.com, the five East African nations hit hard by the tsunami have not received that same attention or support. In Somalia alone, hundreds are known dead, thousands were injured, and more than 50,000 homes were destroyed. This figure is probably a gross underestimate of the damage done there. UNHCR (The United Nations High Commissioner For Refugees) has issued an urgent "flash appeal" for aid to Somalia. They are assisting disaster victims in north-east Somalia with relief supplies and shelter materials for 5,000 households. They are currently sending 32,500 blankets and 2,995 plastic sheets from Kenya stocks to the Somali port of Bossasso. Further deliveries of aid, including blankets, kitchen sets, mattresses and jerry cans are planned.
